Therapy

At Integrate OT, we believe every child is unique, with their own strengths, challenges, and ways of engaging with the world. Our mission is to support children aged 0–15 in discovering their potential through evidence-based, meaningful activities that foster growth, confidence, and joy.

Our Approach

We utilize the DIR® Floortime framework to guide our interventions, focusing on:

  • Developmental milestones to understand each child’s current stage.

  • Individual Differences in sensory processing, motor skills, and emotional regulation.

  • Relationships that nurture trust and encourage interactive learning.

This holistic model allows us to build strong foundations for social, emotional, and functional capacities, rather than focusing solely on isolated skills.

Therapy Settings

Understanding that children thrive in environments where they feel comfortable and engaged, we offer flexible therapy locations tailored to each family’s needs:

  • Home: Familiar surroundings can enhance comfort and participation.

  • Preschool/School: Collaborating with educators to support learning and development.

  • Clinic: A controlled environment equipped with specialized resources.

  • Nature-Based: Leveraging the outdoors to develop motor skills, imagination, and social interaction.

What is DIR Floortime?

DIR Floortime is a relationship-based therapy that supports neurodivergent children by encouraging emotional, social, and cognitive growth through play. It follows the child’s lead and uses their interests to build communication, thinking, and connection. “DIR” stands for Developmental, Individual-differences, and Relationship-based, reflecting its focus on each child’s unique development and the importance of meaningful interactions.

How does Floortime work?

Floortime is a relationship-based approach where adults—whether parents, therapists, or educators—join the child in their world by following their interests and cues during play and everyday moments.

By building connection through shared joy and curiosity, we support the child to expand their communication, thinking, and emotional capacities in a developmentally meaningful way.

Floortime encourages growth through six key developmental stages, from co-regulation and engagement to symbolic thinking and reflective problem solving.

Core Principles

  • Following the child’s lead while gently encouraging interaction.
  • Expanding circles of communication (e.g., helping a child express needs or respond to emotions).
  • Building back-and-forth emotional exchanges, helping develop logical thinking and empathy.

How is it different from other therapies?

Compared to more structured or behavior-based approaches, DIR Floortime is:

  • More child-led and relationship-based
  • Focused on emotional connection and development, not just behavior modification
  • Highly individualized

Nature-Based Occupational Therapy

Integrating skills from the home or clinic into the great outdoors, our nature-based sessions aim to:

  • Develop gross and fine motor skills, imagination, and social skills.

  • Improve emotional well-being, concentration, and adaptability.

  • Cultivate an appreciation for nature.

Therapy Outcomes

Families often notice meaningful growth in their children, including:

  • Increased engagement and ability to focus on activities that interest them
  • Strengthened core stability and physical confidence in movement
  • Growing independence and coordination in fine motor tasks
  • Expanded sense of self-confidence and creative expression
  • Readiness to participate in learning environments in ways that feel safe and supportive
  • Greater adaptability and openness to new experiences and problem-solving
  • Enriched capacity for connection, communication, and shared interactions with others

Our Commitment

We are dedicated to providing a neuro-affirming, child-led approach that celebrates individual differences. By immersing ourselves in each child’s world, we aim to create meaningful interactions and activities that support their growth and development.

“Differences are not deficits — they are the starting point for truly individualized support.”
